This is in line with one of the Review’s overarching objectives, of ensuring an equitable approach to the regulation of online and land-based gambling, and responds to the evidence of specific risks associated with the availability of high stakes play on online slots games.
One of the key proposals in the white paper was the introduction of a stake limit for online slots games. It outlined a comprehensive package of measures to introduce robust new protections against gambling-related harm, targeted to minimise disruption for the millions of gamblers who participate with no ill effects.
Following the review of the Gambling Act 2005, the gambling white paper published in April 2023 set out the government’s plans for modernising the regulation of the gambling sector.
